So there we were….
(I wish….)
So there we were in a house, gathered together to talk of ‘vision’ and ‘dream’. We had agreed on an evening of space and open discusssion with a service of Compline to end. We had done this as there had been too many words, too much hot air and we had lost our way a bit. I guess we needed to refocus and find out what inspired us once more.
As it was, there were maybe too many words again. We love words in Protestant Churches. Sometimes I am reminded of a line from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where one character outlines that whilst it is possible to talk the hind legs off a donkey, this particular character is the only one who has the ability to persuade the donkey to walk again. And yes, mea culpa…
We spoke about the need for ‘space’- for listening, finding a way forward and modelling a life lived differently.
And so we came to the end of the meeting, which due to our many words had overshot. We tried to set another meeting and diaries were opened. ‘I cannot do Monday as there is x church council, Tuesday is y church councl and Wednesday is z church council’.
And I thought, with deep regret; we are so so far from home aren’t we?
